Spore – Review

31 10 2008

Spore Icon

Spore is one of the most downloaded paid games developed by EA Games not only for the iPhone and iPod Touch, but also for computer and Nintendo DS.

In this game you create a primitive creature (similar to a cell organism) that you guide trough the world making it evolve until his specie gets a real civilation and then starts conquesting the universe.

Unfortunately, in the iPhone version you can only guide your creature in the underwater world. I just finished the last level, the 30th (so if you have any questions on how to do any difficult levels, ask me).

The last 2 levels are pretty challenging and I could finish the last one only by choosing a different way from what the game reccomanded.

Google Earth – Review

29 10 2008

We’ve all been waiting for months for an app like this one, and now it’s here. I’m talking about Google Earth.

This app uses the same graphic of the computers and the multi-touch technologies and the accelerometer of Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch.

You can zoom by pinching in and out and you can look around (like in the EarthScape app) in a similar method of Street View in the new Google Phone (HTC G1): tilting the phone will change the perspective.  Loading the map is pretty fast with the Wi-Fi.

In this mobile version of Google Earth you can read Wikipedia articles related to a precise location or watch images from Panoramio. The ground is in 3D.

Another nice feature is that you can use this app also when you’re offline, using the images you loaded up the last times you were connected.

There will be soon an update for this app because some people reported crashes when trying to search for a location.

Create the “VXL Theme” – Part 1

20 10 2008

This is an easy and short guide that lets you create the VXL Theme, which is a new nice colorful theme.

VXL Theme Screenshot

VXL Theme Screenshot

To use it in your iPhone, you’ll need a few things:

  • WinterBoard (you can download it from Cydia)

  • A program that manages files of the iPhone (I suggest to use iPhone Broswer, which uses the USB cable and doesn’t need any SSH procedures)

First of all, create a new folder… let’s say VXL 1. Inside this folder, create another folder called “Icons”.

Inside VXL 1 put these pictures:

Wallpaper.png

Wallpaper.png

Dock.png

Dock.png

StatusBar.png

StatusBar.png

Be careful to give them the right name, otherwise they won’t work. So: Wallpaper.png; Dock.png; StatusBar.png.

Create the “VXL Theme” – Part 2

20 10 2008

Now let’s put these files into the Icons folder:

Again, be sure to give them the right name.

Now let’s put the whole VXL Theme folder inside the phone in this place: [root] / Library / Themes.

Now open Winterboard, select VXL Theme and deselect all other options or themes. Press the Home Button and wait until the phone restarts.

If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask me.
